Otp 2009

Ft. Morgan to Fontana

In Ft. Morgan we found Phil, Harry Marin, and Steve Cook in the Garage. They had to fix Phils Bike. After replacing an gasket and some coffee we were ready to start.
The landscape changed completely. Long straight roads, green grass, fields and pastures. No curve up to the horizont.
Harry Martin left during the way.
After a long ride Phil, Steve and I arrived in Lincoln, Nebraska at Chris Baums House at 10 pm. To late for the American minor league baseball game, only some time left for a little dinner, some beer and a short talk.
Friday we headed down the road towards Missouri. The same long strait roads the whole day . In the evening we reached Hannibal.
We have a nice Dinner at Kerleys Pub, met Kevin Cummings and watched my first baseball-game on TV.
Next day we had breakfast at the Mark Twain Diner. We stopped at the Lovers Leap Lookout on the way out of town, excellent views of the Mississippi river valley.
Kevin guided us along the Mississippi and left in the afternoon.
We reached Murph's house near Manitou, KY in the evening, have a nice sweet BBQ with banana pudding and some Bud Light in the garden.
Next morning we got out of Murph's and went to breakfast with him in Madisonville.
During the next day Steve left to visit his brother.
We rode through Tennessee, mostly small two-lanes.
In the afternoon we reached Tullahoma, where we visited the Beechcraft Heritage Museum. For those of you don't know, Beechcraft is one of the historically innovative manufacturers of private aircraft. The museum started as the Staggerwing Museum, but now includes all of Beech's planes up to, but probably not including, the Hawkers and the Beechjet.
At the entrance a sign “closed”. Phil knocked at he door, private party...but some times left and we were allowed to look at the airplanes!
Phil was happy.
Short dinner and some highway to Chattanooga.
In the Hotel some beer in the room from the gas station (I had to show my driving license, Thank you looking so young?).
Monday morning we head forward to Fontana.
About 50 miles before Fontana we met several Concours at a fuel station. Breakfast on a River and nice twisty roads (The Cherahola Skyway) to the National in Fontana.
